I would go with a lighter brown

Definitly blond. It goes so good with brown eyes. If your hair is already blond do a light brown to a dirty blond. That goes great with meduim skin.

Definitly stay in the brunette family. It's always recommended to only go two shades lighter, and not more, because it'll be too unatural looking, and more stressful on the hair. A nice golden beige brunette can be gorgeous. Or a rich caramel color is always beautiful. Are you going to do the color yourself? If you are I can recommend some great over the counter colors for you.

I buy colored moose (don't know how to spell) and found that I look great in red, blue, white.... then I go and dye my hair sometimes. I rather like the wash out stuff the best. I like changing my mind. grin.

If you're concerned about damaging your hair you should get highlights instead. Color-wise..I think good colors for you would be either red or light brown depending on your taste. If you dyed your hair blonde you might not have a lot of color in your face and it would not really look good as red or a lighter brown for your coloring. If you asked me to pick between the two I would go red.
