Is a medium hold gel bad for african american relaxed hair, even if it doesn't get hard and fla

I wanted to try the "out of the shower" hair look and I just wanted to know if the gel could potentially harm my hair. I dont' even know if it will work yet, but before I tried it I wanted a few helpful opinions.

gel can dry out your hair...so try a setting lotion or mousse

Anna sui makes a glitter gel. Ice spiker is a firm hold but I water it down a bit.
