go to a shelter or pound and pick out a mix. some of the best dogs i've ever owned were pit mixes. males are more obediant and eager to please, females are a little brighter and hard-headed. if the dog will be inside avoid lab mixes because they are extremely destructive for about the first two years. please remember that dogs are pack animals and if you don't have a lot of time to spend with one you should get two. if you leave one alone they get frustrated and that leads to destruction, surprises in your bed or on your floor, etc. if you have to have a pure bread dog look at some of the coon hounds. very short hair, clean, and pretty bright.

Try the kennel club they should be able to give you advice on medium sized short haired dogs. i quite like staffordshire bull terriers although they are on the smaller side of medium, or maybe go for a mixed breed??

I would recomend a Boston Terrier. I have three of them of myself Bailey , Mi Mi , and Pumpkin . They are such smart dogs , they are quick learners,they are great around kids, and the honestly don't shed that much .

DALMATION or a labrador, maybe a cross breed, or staffie, rottweiler, most dogs will malt some fluff anyways so you could just get a GOLDEN RETRIEVER

Best thing is to do some research, you need to take into consideration lots' of things before you decide, eg; how much time do you have for walkies ? where do you live? Lab, Greyhound or Lurcher. They are great allround dogs, easy to train, friendly and loyal.

Go to a resuce centre and see what you find if your not set on a certain breed. Mixes usually make the best dogs.

Tibetan Terrier, doesn't cast hair. They never seem to age stay like puppies forever. Although i now have a greyhound who was too slow for the track, despite him being big hes no bother and has a mind of his own with some strange habits. Loves going into my living room and removing the cushions and puts them outside on the grass. He luvs the cat strangely enough and she teases the life out of him but he wouldn't harm her, well heres hoping.

It all depends on what you class as a medium sized dog! Labradors are good and have short hair, but do tend to moult alot and will eat you out of house and home. Boxers tend to be a bit mad but very loving, i have never met a nasty boxer. Dalmations, but again they can be slightly over excitable
